The drive of the Sadler’s Wells New Wave Associates scheme is to invite young artists into Sadler’s Wells and support them in a variety of bespoke ways at a key time in their careers. With practical production time in Sadler’s Wells’ studios and theatres, advice, introductions alongside direct financial support, the aim is to provide an artistic home while enabling them to feed into the artistic programme with their energy, dynamism and fresh ideas.
The scheme is supported by the Esmee Fairbairn Foundation and in the first year of the scheme Sadler’s Wells will support six artists. They are:
Alexander Whitley, Daniel Linehan, Hetain Patel, Rocio Molina, Tao Dance Theatre and Wilkie Branson
The range of the six inaugural New Wave Associates represents the diversity of Sadler’s Wells’ annual programme, both stylistically and in terms of countries of origin. Three are based in the UK, and three hail from abroad – namely Spain, Belgium and China. The range of styles stretches from contemporary to modern ballet, performance to hip hop, and conceptual to flamenco. Support for them runs through to Spring 2014 during which time it is anticipated that they will all be programmed at Sadler’s Wells in some capacity.
